Why do people teach?

Why do people teach?

Is it because they get out at 3pm everyday? Or because they have three week-long vacations during the year and summers off? Is it because even though not the highest paying job, its decent enough especially if you are involved in a 2-income household? I highly doubt any of these things, especially the last, being paid because actually if you want to see how pay would be broken down hourly, look here. So what are some true reasons to teach?

For me, I think that teachers are a very influential part of a young person's life. You are the person that sets in place the building blocks of a child's academic life, and truly much more than that.Teachers are some of the first adults not only to teach children how to read, write, and count but also provide many other life skills to young children. How to interact with other peers, how to interact with authority figures, and how to problem solve in not just an academic sense, but in everyday life as well. One website I found lists the "Top 10 Reasons to Become a Teacher". Although some of these reasons may be altering in our current world. I believe that most of them feel quite true to current and future teachers.

This week during the EDU 100- Premise of the School course our learning module was all about "Why Teach?". It really made me think of why I truly want to teach, and why others want to teach. I also found this video, with just some insight on why teachers want to teach, and who influenced them.

I think wanting to be a teacher is the first step, the second is knowing the good and the bad. The many positive experiences you will have but also the negative. Also, there is a lot more work to put in than you may think at first. But all of it create a profession that if you are the right person for it you will enjoy.

Lastly, I also found this video while searching through Pinterest for other ideas on "Why Teach?". Please watch it, because if you are a teacher this will get you pumped up

First Post !!

Hi Everyone!

My first post here in my very first blog ever! I am still a little confused but I am sure I will get the hang of it as I go! I am starting this blog for my EDU 100:Premise of the School course. I am excited and hope to use this for the duration of my education career. I have a lot of great ideas and hope to post them and share them with. I am a young teacher with still a lot to learn, and I am eager to do so! I have been involved in multiple types of teaching and learning and I think that this makes me a well-rounded student and educator. I am very excited to start exploring new ideas and ways to be creative inside and outside of the classroom. I am a strong believer in Literacy, and having my students become strong successful readers. Also to enjoy reading (something that I did not grow an appreciation for until high school, and even further in college).
